When life is hectic...

We made it through the first month of 2021! It is a new year with so many opportunities. How did your year start? Are you reaching your goals? Are you changing things in your life to better yourself?

Personally, this year started off with some twists and turns. It is crazy how in a day your life can change. In one day, the world around you can feel different. Is that how life is?

Maybe, I truly do not know.

After I left treatment, I tried to appreciate each moment. I used to be busy wrapped up in negative emotions. Recently, I thought I was beginning to enjoy each moment. This past month, I realized I have been taking a lot of things for granted.

When life throws you curve balls, our emotions can be all over the place. Will I ever get that chance again? Will I be able to do those things again? Those negative emotions take control. I was starting to become sad, angry, frustrated, and confused. I was spending my time thinking about the moments I ruined, rather than the moments I enjoyed. I became angry with myself. I was frustrated that I took things for granted.

Life gets hectic sometimes, with up and downs.

If we spend our time focusing on the moments we miss out on… we will never realize the moments we had. This was exactly what I was doing. I spent days thinking about what I missed and chances I will never get back. Thinking this way can put you in a bad place.

As this month comes to a close, I realized I learned an important lesson. Life can change at any moment, so it is important to appreciate the moments we often overlook. The moments of being in the car getting bagels with your father. The smell of a home cooked meal from your mother. The excitement of your dog when you walk through the door. The sound of your nephew’s voice, walking into your room to wake you up to play. We do not realize that those moment are important. It is the simple moments of joy we can not overlook when life gets hectic.

If you feel like your life is changing around you, try not to focus on the things you can lose. Try to focus on the great things you already had and new things you can gain.

Lastly, it is okay to experience the downs in life. We all have them. It is normal.

Not everything in nature blooms all year around.
