Living life through the eyes of our dogs

Recently, I watched the movie Soul, on Disney plus. Majority of Disney movies have a underlining meaning. Don't worry, I won’t spoil the movie! In the movie, the main characters were caught up in having a dream or purpose which lead them to forget the point of life. Sometimes, I get caught up in my dreams that I forget to enjoy the journey. I become distracted and my mind thinks about everything I need to do rather than enjoying the moment.

Towards the end of the movie, the directors demonstrated the point of life is not finding your purpose but living it. I don’t know what the point of life is but I do know that we all need to remember to enjoy life.

I have been struggling with stress from school and work these pass couple of weeks. When overwhelmed, I become irritable and anxious. I quickly go into negative thinking patterns. My stress starts to consume me. Overcoming this stress, I need to remember to enjoy my time rather than stress about uncontrollable situations.

How do I overcome my stress?

My dog, Lenny...

Anyone that knows me, knows my dog is my world. He is my best friend and favorite companion. Lenny, always appears to be happy and embracing the simple pleasures of life. When I catch myself falling back into unhealthy thinking patterns, my dog reminds me to enjoy life. He will look at me with his big eyes and remind me to go do something fun. Whenever I am sad, anxious, or stress he will bark and beg me to play. It is like he knows what is going on in my head.

Or...he understands what life is about.

Why do we allow ourselves to get so overwhelmed that we forget to enjoy life? We let our careers consume us or petty arguments impact our mood. Are we taking life to seriously? Are we enjoying our life?

If we decide to enjoy each moment, would we feel happier with in our life? My dog, Lenny is always enjoying life... sometimes a little too much. Maybe if we looked at the world through the eyes of our dogs we could figure out the point of this journey.

In the eyes of my dog, I learned ...

Never pass up the opportunity to go for joyride.

When loved ones come home always run to greet them.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

Take every opportunity to run.

Enjoy every treat like it is your last.

When you are happy, dance around and wag your entire body..

Listen attentively and don’t offer solutions.

When you see someone is sad, just sit with them.

Never be afraid to jump in the water.

Be fearless when chasing something you want.

Always make time to play.

Be optimistic.

Embrace the beauty of a long walk.

Show kindness and love to a stranger.

Never forget where you came from.

Enjoy the Journey.

"No matter what life brings you, kick some grass over that shit and move on."
